My name is Sandra Mukidza. Although I am currently living in Switzerland, I was born and raised in Kenya which is where I joined the Food Revolution.
My background is in the food production and service industry, commonly known as the hospitality industry. I have been a part of the Food Revolution family for a little over two years now and the journey has been nothing short of amazing. I have met unique individuals, amazing and interesting young minds that share a mutual passion for a food revolution. Due to the change in my location, I’m currently in the process of connecting with the Food Revolution ambassadors over here in Switzerland. But before moving here, I worked on cooking club projects with children in Nairobi, Kenya, where we used various Jamie Oliver inspired recipes to create awareness of the importance of healthy cooking by not only using healthy ingredients but also healthy cooking techniques.
What has being a revolutionary meant for me? To begin with, it has allowed me to create a bigger network for the cause. There are now over 3,000 Food Revolution ambassadors around the world who engage with one another, and encourage each other in their individual journeys, no matter where they are on the globe. It has also given me the opportunity to do things I would have never thought of doing, from giving public talks and partnering with schools, the amazing opportunities it has provided me in teaching children how they can better take care of themselves as they grow up. Lastly, my coordination and communication skills are definitely getting better considering the fact that majority of the people I have met through this started as strangers but have become a part of my life, through the projects I have been a part of, friends have been made and relationships built.
While I wasn’t with my fellow revolutionaries in Kenya on Food Revolution Day, I was with them in spirit and I’m excited to get things going here in Switzerland as I begin to understand the dynamics of a new Food Revolution here!
